Will be spending just one day in Tallin (cruise port) as well as some time in Helsinki and Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Kiel and Warnemunde Germany. I%26#39;m trying to avoid exchanging USD into all of these currencies. So...is it possible to use Euros in Tallinn? How close to the cruise ship port will there be a bank or ATM?
any suggestions for the other ports would also be appreciated.
We are not going on a tour in Tallinn, hoping to walk around on our own, with my doing some research ahead of time on what to see.
Are credit cards easily accepted for lunch?

You can%26#39;t use euoros in shops but most tallinn shops and cafes accept credit cards. Also there are atm-s in every corner...
Also you can change in every bank usd to eek without any commission :)
And look here around - one day you see only old town - so just look previous posts... There are lot of good suggestions...

Thank you! I%26#39;ve been spending hours on this site and finding good information!

This site can also help you :)
Have a nice trip :)

It is not true that banks exchange without a commission.
|||
OK - seems that really banks taking commission... 25EEK.
But my favourite place is Tavid for exchanging http://tavid.ee/?lang=eng and there it really is without comission :) Sorry for misleading information :)

Their commission is the difference between the buy and sell rate.

thanks.
I%26#39;ve just been calling around to different banks here as well as American Express Travel office - and the bottom line is - no matter what - to exchange currency costs!
Still have not figured out if better to just use ATM or credit card or exchange currency - no matter what, there%26#39;s a %26quot;fee%26quot; of some kind involved.
American Express charges $4 flat fee, USD plus I don%26#39;t think there rates are very good. Bank charges a fee too, a flat fee.
Anyone have any suggestions for %26quot;Must see%26quot; places? So far, I want to see The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and someone mentioned that I should go somewhere to see the rooftops - any idea where?
And the town square.
any other suggestions?
|||
The area to see is around the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. This is the highest area.
I think the lookout you are talking about is at the end of Kohtu. Overlooks the old town.
The other churches are interesting too, Toom Kirik (Dome Church or St. Mary%26#39;s) is much older and nearby.

Thanks!
I%26#39;m really looking forward to seeing Tallinn!

There are two lookout platforms on Toompea Hill and both are worth visiting for the rooftop views. Just follow the droves of tourists if you have any trouble finding them.
