Fun? (silly question which must be asked) Costly? Ok for a two day trip? Sights? Snooty comments? I%26#39;m wondering about watering holes, history, and good food. Thanks in advance.

Hi
Can you repeat your question so it makes sense. Is the fun costly, what kind of fun do you mean? Tallinn is an amazing historic city with a fantastic heritage, and full of sights but not sure what sights you want to see. What kind of food do you like and are you talking about boozy stag type bars or the classy quiet sophisticated sort?
Sorry if I sound %26quot;snooty%26quot; but it is hard to answer questions in one word sentences.
I%26#39;m going next week for the sixth or seventh time, and I have lots of guide books so ask again and I%26#39;ll do my best to answer you.

You%26#39;re correct on BOTH counts, you do sound snooty AND my question doesn%26#39;t make sense! Apologies. Under the circumstances I can understand.
You appear to be the person to ask, because it sounds as if you know the area well, and love it. I thank you for any responses. Even those tinged with impatience! Lol!
To answer the stag question, I wasn%26#39;t looking for a drunken night out. I%26#39;m not averse to such things, but I figure I can stumble home from the neighborhood bar anytime I want. I was thinking along the lines of a place to have a few beers and people watch, daytime or nighttime, and not have to spend my daughters college fund money. Read, %26quot;is it expensive?%26quot;
Is the food any good? I know this might sound silly, but I have been to entire regions both in the U.S. and overseas where a good local dish was hard to find.
I don%26#39;t know anything about the baltics, outside of some of the history during WWII. I%26#39;m looking for a place out of the ordinary to visit while I have some spare days, and not visiting a friend in Hungary, and Croatia/Slovenia. I thought some of the countries in that region might fit the bill.
I only plan on spending three or four days there, and since I have to try and digest some Croatian, I really don%26#39;t have the time or ability to work on understanding much else. So can I get by ok with English, finger pointing and good manners?
I don%26#39;t mind walking a lot or going up steep hills to see intersting people or places. Is the Harbor (do they HAVE one) areaa place to see?
I%26#39;m fine with just sitting on my own or meeting new people.
Once again, thanks for any responses.

Hi
Tallinn is an amazing city with almost everything you could wish for, the most beautiful medieval old town, with lots of little windy cobbled streets and interesting buildings. A long white sandy beach with trees behind it criss-crossed with pretty paths to wander along. An extremely busy harbour with ferries and ships constantly coming and going. As well as some quite interesting Soviet monuments and architecture away from the centre.
Estonian food seems mostly to be based on pork and potatoes and is best descried as filling. But there are lots of other types of restaurants all over the city. You can pay as much or as little as you want, the ones in the Old Town Square costing a fortune.
There are lots of street cafes which are ideal for people watching in the summer, one of our favourite activities. Again in the very centre more expensive than on the edges of the Old Town.
The best thing you can do is download a copy of the In Your Pocket guide which gives lots of unbiased reviews on bars and restaurants throughout Tallinn. I also found the %26quot;Footprint%26quot; guide, available from Amazon, gave us lots of ideas of what to do and see.
