Transport from Tallinn airport to town centre (and bars!)

I will shortly be visiting Tallinn with 5 friends, and we would like to know a) what the best method of getting from the airport to our hotel would be (Domina Inn Illmarine - sp?) and b) roughly how much we can expect to pay so that we know whether we are being ripped off or not. Please can anyone advise?

Also, we aren%26#39;t wild and crazy clubbers, but we do enjoy a drink - any recommendations for nice bars which perhaps offer cocktails and a decent selection of beer, and which aren%26#39;t packed or really noisy?

Thank you so much in advance!

Taxi from Airport to IImarine is around 125eek to 175eek depending upon taxi and traffic.

You will need two taxi%26#39;s as 6 people.

I would recommend calling the hotel and ask them to send a family wagon so all of you can fit in one car.

Hotel will charge you around 300eek

Bars for Cocktails:

Ice Bar

Bar 8

deja vu

I would say 130 krooni - last time I was in Tallinn the driver was accurate and the fare was 130 krooni.

In case you do not trust the figures you will see on the taximeter just remember that on the front window of each car there is a phone No. of taxi company - call them and the unfair driver will be punished.

However, 99 to 1 that everything will be okay, Estonia is a very good-natured country and people there are very lawful.

Thanks very much to you both. Your advice was very helpful and the trip to Tallinn was excellent!

VictoriaPlum... how did you find the prices in the bars please.. and which would you recommend?

Thanks

Hi UnsureNow,

We went to the Ice Bar for cocktails, which cost approx £2.50-£3 each (500-600EEK) - the portions were generous, so I thought they were very good value (esp. compared to the £6 and upwards in the bars at home). The mojhitos were the drink of the night. The bar itself was v. quiet for a Saturday night, but we were in a group and settled ourselves into a corner so we didn%26#39;t really notice the lack of other clients.

We also visited the ubiquitous Beer House (Ice Bar is just across the road from it), where the beers were huge and plentiful. The blokes in the group thought the big steins of beer were a good price, but as a wine drinker, I wasn%26#39;t really paying attention.

Molly Malone%26#39;s was OK, and there was another Irish bar which did Bailey%26#39;s cocktails. Neither of which were particularly my cup of tea, but if you like that kind of thing they are OK.

One thing that did surprise me, was that all of the bars had really good wine lists, and that whilst the wine wasn%26#39;t cheap, the choice was so good you could have pretty much what you fancied. A typical bottle price would be 180-250EEK.

Completely off-subject, but I would definately recommend the African Kitchen for dinner and another funny little place called something like %26#39;Grandma%26#39;s Kitchen%26#39; which was like eating in someone%26#39;s house during the 1940s.

Hope this helps!

Hi guys,

Nice to hear that you plan to visit Tallinn. It has been my hometown for the past 20 years already and although I travel a lot, I always want to come back.

The weather is not the best at this time of the year, but it is OK for short walks.... from one pub to another or from one shopping center to a museum!

Tallinn airport is practically IN THE city. the price of the taxi depends on the taxi company. the stickers with rates must always be on the window of the taxi. So, look for company called Tulika (usually white Opel cars). Their rate to Domina Inn should be around EEK 150. In case you are arriving during the rush-hours, it can be also EEK 200. ALWAYS ask for a receipt. Then you at least later know who has ripped you off!

There are a lot of pubs and cafes and nice restaurants in the city. Old City is full of them. Your hotel is very near to the the Old City (ab 400m). Ask for the city guide in the hotel.

In case you want to see some style then I personally advise the following places: Vertigo for fine dining, RIBE for a excellent food and service, Peppersack for old city feeling, Valli bar for memories back to the USSR. we have hundred places to eat and drink, You can get beer everywhere and it is 95% very good.

So have a nice trip and take care!

your advisor:)
