I am going to Tallinn on the 17th November with my best mate (not a stag weekend - just a break). We enjoy mingling with the locals when we go away and not to go where the masses are. After all we are in a foreign country so don%26#39;t want to be surrounded by English.
We are staying at the UniqueStay Hotel. Are there any local, quiet bars near by that anyone can recommend?
I also have an interest in %26#39;Cold War History%26#39;. Apart from the museum of the occupation are there any other sights that I should check out?
Finally - how cold will it be? Should I leave the shorts at home :o)

The TV Tower might be worth a visit for its Soviet design - especially the stained glass murals in the entrance.
As for bars we really like Hell Hunt, Pikk 39, - though it is not that quiet but full of locals - and Sy. Patrick%26#39;s at Suur-Karja 8 which was pretty quiet and seemed to have a few locals inside

TV Tower closed down over 6months ago and seen as unsafe for use as a tourist site..

There are some great wine bars... In cellars.
Cold at the moment yesterday morning was -2 at 8am.

Thanks for the feedback - I guess I better go buy a warm coat :o)

Juuksur
Pikk 43/Vaimu 1.
Currently the coolest of Tallinn%26#39;s underground bars, Juuksur is a stone cellar full of mismatched furniture and art nerds. The bar%26#39;s name means %26#39;hairdresser%26#39;s%26#39;, so naturally some of the chairs have old-style salon drying helmets hovering above them. Live bands and bottled beer.
Open 17:00-24:00, Friday: 17:00-02:00, Saturday: 17:00-02:00
No tourists here!

Musi (transl: Kiss) is the small winebar 99% local visitors - in oldtown and close to uniquestay hotel.
fish and wine is local yuppie%26#39;s place - tatari street - it is a bit (but only a bit) out of old town. i think wednesday night they have singles nights there.

The TV Tower closed down 6 months ago? Oh dear. We were there at the end of July and went up it - had a drink in the restaurant and everything!
|||
Can%26#39;t see anything on the web about the TV Tower being closed - do you have any links HotelinTallinn or others? Just interested to know.
|||
I%26#39;ve also read on the inyourpocket guide that it is open until the end of November then closes due to health and safety reason??

The bottom part of the TV tower is open, but whats the point of that. The whole point was the restaurant at the top with views, which is CLOSED.
