We travel to Tallinn on 1st Feb from the UK and would like some advise on the best way to sort out the currency.
Is is better to change to EEK%26#39;s in UK,change from English currency when we arrive,take travellers cheques and if so what currency? or use the ATM%26#39;s in Tallin?
Thanks in anticipation, really looking forward to our break.

plenty of ATM machines in Tallinn. I travel constantly and have never used travellers cheques...change rate I cannot help you with...
ATM is the way to go.
|||
How about the exchange rate or commission? Is it still worth using an ATM when you take this into consideration?

Hi
First of all forget travellers cheques, they are pretty much obsolete these days.
If you want to change your money before you go use Marks and Spencer%26#39;s, they offer a far better rate than banks, travel agents and the post office.
Using ATM%26#39;s abroad can be pricey with every bank except the Nationwide. It%26#39;s the only one to give the full interbank rate and no charges, all the others rob you blind.
I hope this has answered all your questions.
Have a good trip

Thanks for your help Jackie34.
Do you have to order the EEK%26#39;s or can you just walk in to M%26amp;S and pick them up?
|||
Hi
You have to order them, I think it takes about ř working days, but it might be less.
Have a great trip to Tallinn, we%26#39;re going on the 12th March for four nights and I cannot wait.

Sorry about previous reply, I%26#39;m in the Czech Republic and their keyboard is different to my UK one, it%26#39;s 5 working days.

Hi,
One thing I would say that I didn%26#39;t read in any guidebook before I went. When you pay at shops and cafes it seems the custom is place your cash onto the counter instead of handing it direct to shopkeeper like in the UK.
|||
exchange rate is roughly 19 to 1. £476 will get you 9000 kroon,hope this helps
|||
Thanks for the great advice guys.
We%26#39;ve ordered our currency from M%26amp;S, got a really good rate and commission free.
|||
Actually the best thing to do is usually to bring sterling and then change it when you arrive. M%26amp;S is the best of a bad bunch but their rates are still a rip off compared to what you would get in the dedicated currency exchange places in Baltic cities. ATMs should be avoided except in emergencies.
