Restaurants in Tallinn for the adventurer

Hello all,

I will be a first time traveler to Tallinn, heading there in 3 weeks. Looking for authentic Estonian cuisine, even if it is off the beaten path a bit. We are staying in the Old City, but are willing to check out other less %26quot;touristy%26quot; nabes if it results in a good meal. Have seen a few websites of Estonian restaurants in the Old City and they seemed a bit pricey and tourist trappy. Also, our tastes are not for the faint of heart, so bring on the suggestions--the more eccentric the better!! Thanks in advance.

We went to Eesti Maja, slightly out of the centre, for a great buffet lunch, we also enjoyed Express Cafe near the ferry port for an all-you-can-eat soup buffet, and Turg in the Old Town did a reasonable buffet lunch. We went to the %26quot;mediaeval%26quot; restaurants in the Old City in the evening (Peppersack and Olde Hansa), also the Balthazar garlic restaurant and thought they were all excellent and although not cheap good value for money compared to the UK. I%26#39;ve been to a lot of countries and was astonished to realise that, overall, Tallinn is the best place I have ever been for food.
