Food and Drink

I will have a few nights to look around in June. Which restaurants/bars might be best for unique local/regional food and beers?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

We liked Kuldse Notsu Körts (The Golden Pig) on Dunkri for Estonian food.

The Beer House opposite brews its own beer and serves it unfiltered. It also does food, but we preferred Kuldse Notsu Körts for eating.

Thanks for the feedback. I%26#39;ll try to stop by there. On my last visit, I saw the outdoor folk museum made a beer(drink) reenactment once per week. I would like to sample that if possible on my next visit.

Hi here are a few of oir favourite restaurants which serve Estonian cuisine

Eesti Maja at Lauteri 1 who serve a mixture of meat and fish dishes including the wonderfuly named %26quot;Piggy Under a Cloud%26quot; and delicious drink/dessert Kama - good food, good service and good value - their website is www.eestimaja.ee

Vanaema Jurees , Rataskaevu 10/12 is a cosy cellar restaurant serving hearty meat and fish dishes - lovely food - the lamb with blue cheese was very good - and a great atmosphere.

Balthasar - Raeojka plats 11 - is a garlic restaurant serving International cuisine featuring, well, garlic! The food and service are both excellent - the garlic soup and garlic ice cream being particulary delicious - more expensive than some but the food reflects this and the location overlooking the town square is great. Their website is www.balthasar.ee

Must Lammas at Sauna 2 is a stylish restaurant serving such Caucasian cuisine such as Georgian Cheese Pie with yoghurt sauce (Lovely!), trout with plums and raisins and Shashlyk grilled meat. Very good food in a relaxed atmosphere - as the name of the restaurant translates as Black Sheep they also sell Black Sheep Ale produced in Masham in the Yorkshire Dale not far from where i am originally froms! Their website is www.mustlammas.ee

As for bars I really like Hell Hunt at Pikk 39, great beer and great atmosphere

Enjoy Tallinn - we have been twice and loved every minute!

Thanks for all the recommendations!

For an experience I would also suggest the Olde Hansa www.oldehansa.ee They are not the average modern Estonian, as they do it the medieval style, but we live the 21. century, but you may find them interesting.

Would absolutely endorse mightywease%26#39;s recommendation for Hell Hunt. Really good place with own brand of beer (dark and light), plus excellent snacks and lowish prices.

You are going to have a great time in Tallinn. I don%26#39;t know what other experiences you%26#39;ve had, but the German-style BeerHaus was always a lot of fun. A lot of spots in old town have little cafes/pubs. What are your tastes in beer. I remember a warm dark sweet beer that was unique to Tallinn.

I will find Beer Haus and Hell Hunt. I enjoy clean lagers (light and dark), flavorful ales and Baltic-style porters and stouts. Sound like it will be a fun search.

|||

Great recommendations. I%26#39;ve visited Old Hansa and going back with colleagues. Nice beer selection at Hell Hunt, with a non-smoking first floor. Nice unfiltered house beers at Beer House - all non-smoking inside except for a designated room.

Will try the other places next!
