Mid Summer Night

I%26#39;m going to be in Estonia over the weekend of June 20-22 and wondering a few things about Mid Summer Night.

What night is it actually celebrated this year?

Any suggestions on what do to in around Tallinn for the celebration?

Are there other places, like Parnu or Tartu that would be better to experience it?

I%26#39;m not looking for a totally crazy party atmosphere, but would like to experience whatever the locals do.

It is celebrated on June 23 regardless what day in the week it is. Mostly people go to the country, make bonfires and eat and unfortunately some of them get (very) drunk too. Unless you know some local people, I don%26#39;t suggest to go to some village party on your own and look for trouble. :-) In towns there will belots of parties too. I would suggest you to go to Pärnu which is a great place in summer and they will have a bonfire on singing ground at Vallikäär this year too, I believe. It is quite by the sea and in a nice area.

If I%26#39;m not wrong there also a celebration at the Open Air musemum (Roca al Mare) at this night that could be interesting for a foreigner. But I guess any locals will lnow more about it.

yes Rocca al Mare is very good idea, because there you can see during the whole day estonian tradidions all day (folk dancers - they always pick people from audience to dance:), singers, food, activities for children, horse carridge riding etc... And most important, it`s safe. The very high fire will be led by the sea, so its very beautiful sight.

follow the calendar here:

there is a long program already in estonian language, unfortunateli in eng only the basic info

But the event is there!

Welcome!

p.s take some warm jacket, it might be windy by the sea.

Thanks for the feedback! Since I%26#39;m leaving on the 22nd, I%26#39;ll miss the celebration, but I%26#39;m going to check the museum while I%26#39;m there anyway.
