Hi, we are travelling to Tallinn in August on a cruise. My father will be with us and uses a wheelchair he is partially disabled. I am looking for companies who do shore excursions using a van so we can take the wheelchair with us. So far I havent found any. Can anyone suggest? Or if not can anyone tell me if the cruise port is near the city and if so would it be reasonably easy to walk in and see some sights? We could then take a leisurely stroll round with Dad in the wheelchair or his electric buggy.
Thanks for your help

The old town, which is the old walled city with lots of cafes and restaurants is quite close to the harbour. Check google maps for distances.

The Old Town (Vanalinn) is an easy walk from the port. There are some busy roads to cross so keep an eye on the traffic because they won%26#39;t keep an eye on you. I don%26#39;t know of any company that specifically offers wheelchair support. For that specific information I would recommend contacting the Tourist Information Center in Tallinn.
The Tallinn Tourist Information Center is located in the centre of the Old Town.

thanks so much for your advice and help. Can you tell me do they have pedestrian crossings. so we could get easily across the the old town
|||
Yes, there are crosswalks, just be careful as drivers tend to ignore them. But I think the worst crossing area has traffic lights.
Keep in mind the Old Town is mostly cobblestone with narrow sidewalks. Not terribly wheelchair friendly if I%26#39;m being honest.

Hi, I will be on a cruise to Tallinn in June also.
I checked the Tallinn Travel website, seems like most
of the places in interest won%26#39;t open until 10am. However, my cruise stops at Tallinn from 7am to 1pm. So that leave me only approx 2 hr after places are open.
Anything to do (while I don%26#39;t have to duplicate the
walking too much) in the early morning, so that
I can cover more grounds?
Also, I was told that the ship dock at Tallinn
city port, and I verified that from the Tallinn port
website, however, it doesn%26#39;t say which port
it is from the website. My guess is it is the old
city port, and it is terminal D from the google
maps? By the way, it is Princess cruise.
Thanks for your help.

Hi! As a local I would also suggest - concerning wheelchair access/transport - first the Tallinn tourist information center.
But I also found out for you that there are companies like:
www.tulika.ee
www.invataxi.ee
www.toiran.ee
that are equipped to offer transportation to people using wheelchairs. If that might be something that you are looking for, I would suggest to contact them directly and ask about prices and discuss if they will be able to offer what you are looking for.
As of what to do in Tallinn before 10 am, I just confirmed from some web pages that there are several cafes open starting from 8 am. At least on Pikk street (Bonaparte) and in Saiakang (Kehrweider). Some open at 9 am (like the one right under the Raekoda (Town hall) and also Maiasmokk on Pikk street). But there are others (and very good ones), which you may find just walking down a street. A nice stroll and a morning coffee with cakes in Old Town is something I would go for, if I was coming to Tallinn for just half a day.
I hope this was of help. Have a good time in Tallinn.

To World bunny.
If you would specify what is there on your list already (places you intend to visit) opening at 10 it would be easier to suggest you what to do with the earlier hours and what potentially interesting for you might be on your way to your listes places.

I will be in Tallinn on August 26, 2008, from the Splendor. My granddaughter and I will be walking, but I assume, if we use the public transportation system, we%26#39;ll have to use the kroon. Under what other circumstances would we need to use Estonian currency?
Is anyone else coming in via the Splendor?

want some suggestions?
