our curise will be arriving on july 21 to stay for 5 hrs (7:00 am - 1:00 pm).
will it be too rush to visit the Toompea Hill and the old town ?
thanks.

It will be just about enough for a stroll in the Old Town and up Toompea Hill but not much more. I wouldn%26#39;t try to cram too much into your time frame - just enjoy these sights at a reasonably leisurely pace, stopping for a coffee or snack here and there. This alone will get you your money%26#39;s worth.

thanks. is there any public transportation running from the old town to the toompea hill or we have to walk up to the hill ? if yes, pls advise the bus no. and where we can take it, also how far is it ?
|||
Toompea hill is in Old town - all you need is two legs and 10 minutes :)
|||
True - if they%26#39;re not actually one and the same, they%26#39;re joined at the hip, anyway.
|||
There%26#39;s a short sharp route and a long, gradual rise to Toompea, called respectively Short Leg Street and Long Leg Street (which is why Tallinn is said to be lame). Take your choice.

thank you for your information. it%26#39;s very helpful !
by the way, do you have any idea of the docking port for 7/21 emerald princess ?
is it within a walking distance to the old town ?
if not, any public transportation support ?
how much will it be by taking taxi from the port to the old town ?
thanks again !

%26gt;by the way, can you tell where the tourist information centre at the city center as we would like to get a detail local map and do the tour by our own.
Piece of cake. The street is Pohjoisesplanadi, at the Kauppatori end. It%26#39;s pretty much opposite the Havis Amanda mermaid statue and the Kappeli restaurant (which looks like an enormous birdcage), both good landmarks.
%26gt;also pls advise where we can take the water bus to suomenlinna and what attractions/sightseeing are there, thanks.
The Kauppatori quay is not a very large area and you won%26#39;t have much trouble finding these.
There is an inexpensive city-owned ferry leaving from more or less opposite the Russian eagle monument in the center of the plaza. There are several commercial operations which cost a little more, but I suggest you take one of those going to Kuninkaanportti (King%26#39;s Gate) as this will save you a couple of miles of walking plus precious time.
Things to see: the King%26#39;s Gate itself and the old Russian artillery pieces along the battlements. Have a beer and watch the huge Sweden ferries threading through the narrows between islands.

Sorry, that reply went in the wrong forum! Too many windows open too early in the morning.
|||
I don%26#39;t know about your ship%26#39;s berth, but if you can see the Old Town as you sail into port, you can walk it in 10 minutes. There%26#39;s no advantage in taking a taxi from this location as they have to take a long route around the Old Town and drop you in a place you%26#39;ll need to do some walking anyhow (the choicest parts of the Old Town are off-limits to motor vehicles).

noted with thanks
