day trips from Tallinn

Hello there, does anyone have any suggestions for where to go on a day trip from Tallinn,Estonia? Thanks in advance

You can almost go anywhere in Estonia as the country is not that big.

However, I would recommend a trip to Tartu or Haapsalu. Tartu is an interesting historical city with a very old university. There are interesting museums and a beautiful city square.

Haapsalu is a seaside city with a beautiful old castle.

You could even go to Parnu which is the %26quot;Riviera%26quot; of Estonia with a beautiful beach and spas.

Tartu is good.

You can easily get to Helsinki (Finland) for a day%26#39;s sightseeing and come back in the evening. A lot of people do this. The fastest and cheapest ferry%26#39;s only 1½ hours.

Consider Lahemaa National Park.

We spent 7 nights in Tallinn last year and did 3 day trips; Helsinki, Laheema National Park, and a tour of Eastern Estonia. The last 2 we did with Est Adventures.

From a historical aspect and a chance to see a bit more of Estonia I found the tour of Eastern Estonia the most interesting although less traditional sightseeing

It depends on how long you have got. If you have only got time for one I would probably go to Helsinki as it is an interesting contrast to Tallinn

I%26#39;d second Haapsalu, it only being about 1hr 20mins or so from Tallinn, and it has a lot to offer. Beautiful scenery, white sandy beaches, beautiful architechture and cute cafes and art galleries. Also somewhere to get a good glimpse of Tsarist architechture in Estonia as well as the impression the Estonian Swedes left behind. Noteworthy sights within old town and beyond: Episcopal castle and grounds (v interesting legends connecting to the site),

beautiful forested beach areas, stunning train station, IMO the most impressive in Estonia, which doubles as a fascinating museum, Estonian Swede museum (also really interesting), the Kuursaal (lovely rec hall surrounded by beautiful flowers and the focal point of the famous promenade, which was a fave of Tchaikovsky - he used to summer here, in fact he has his own odd bench in Haapsalu overlooking the water, which starts to play music when you approach it. Also, if you are so inclined, Haapsalu is very well known for it%26#39;s spa facilities. If you are renting a car, the coastal drive to Tallinn is nothing short of superb. This is THE best cafe in Haapsalu http://www.muuriaare.ee/ delicious breakfasts, soups and salads. Actually best in Estonia!

I think Tartu is bit too far for a day trip as 2,5 h buss ride in each direction will make you feel very tired. For that matter even Helsinki is better choice for a day trip :).For day trip in Estonia rent a car visit some manors Sagadi, Palmse, etc take a look here http://www.mois.ee/english/

I would go to Haapsalu and I would also try out their spas.

Hi I am going to Helsinki and Tallinn at Oct, may I know can I buy the ferry tickets from Helsinki or Tallinn instead of buying online? pls help, thank you so much!

|||

Yes, you can buy them in the port, although there may be a small charge for this as opposed to internet booking. There is no problem getting a place on any ferry in October.

If you are taking the fastest ferry (Linda Line), it is wise to book as late as possible in October as their smaller craft sometimes result in cancellations in bad weather.
