First Posting!

Hi

I%26#39;ve never been the first to post on a forum!

I%26#39;ve just returned from a trip to Tallinn. On my last day I arranged a bus trip to Narva. This was partly as I wanted to see a different side to Estonia, partly to see the two fortresses across the River Narva and partly as I had read the history of Narva and wanted to see for myself.

The three hour bus trip took in part of the Lahemaa National Park and many small Estonian Towns before we reached Narva.

Narva itself is an industrial City and a complete contrast to Tallinn. To me, it still had the feel of a Russian City. Little of it%26#39;s history remains, but the Museum in the Castle is interesting and worth visiting. You can also get a spectacular photo of Narva Castle facing Ivangorod Fortress across the River Narva. I had three hours in Narva which was plenty enough time for me.

If anybody is thinking of visiting Narva from Tallinn, I bought my return bus tickets the day before I travelled (although it wouldn%26#39;t have been a problem buying them just before travel) and had absolutely no problems. Trams 2 and 4 take you to the stop for the bus station and the staff there speak English. I would recommend you bring food and drink with you as I couldn%26#39;t find any shops open.

I absolutely loved Tallinn but I%26#39;m glad I had the opportunity to visit Narva as it was such a contrast, and the journey itself was so interesting.

Congratulations! :-) Thanks for the post. I find that you have to get out of Tallinn to really get a feel of Estonia.

We visited Narva last year for a few hours but drove there from Tartu. It is an interesting town as you mentioned.

It was also interesting to watch the process of crossing the border. There%26#39;s a park just above the bridge which is a good vantage point. Approaching Narva trucks were lined up for miles waiting to be allowed to cross.

If in the area, it%26#39;s also interesting to go to Narva-Joesuu where the river empties into the Gulf of Finland. The area used to be a major resort area and is just starting to awake again.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your trip report. We also enjoyed exploring Estonia - there are some fabulous villages/ towns to see...our highlight was visiting Saaremaa Island when the Medieval Festival in the village of Kuressaare was happening.
