The eve of May 1st is celebrated by many, but especially students and fraternities. It%26#39;s called witching night and is usually passed with drinking and partying. It%26#39;s the one night of the year that %26#39;civilians%26#39; are welcome to enter a fraternity house, after midnight, as long as they are wearing a necktie (girls excepted). The following day (still May 1t) is a public holiday like in the rest of Europe, and is moderately celebrated, in Estonia it%26#39;s the first day of spring.

May 1st is definitely a holiday (many places closed) and the drinking and partying the night before is not confined to the frat houses or individual homes. The alleyway behind my apartment in Tallinn had alot of activity as well. Lots of empties the next day including a huge bottle of Jagermeister.
