Hotel Choice

I am planning to visit Tallinn in July.

Where is a good place to stay if you like peace and quiet and a bit of character.

My wife and I are middle-aged and we hate noise, night clubs, and rowdy people.

I am beginning to be a bit concerned by these reports of a lively club scene. What time do these noisy night clubs close down?

Should we stay somewhere out of town?

Best wishes

We stayed at Hotel L’Ermitage which is below Toompea but with easy access to the centre. We found it quiet and it suited us, but having been built in 2004 it%26#39;s a bit short of %26#39;character%26#39;.

I would recommend Valge Villa (www.White-Villa). It%26#39;s about ten minutes with tram from the centre and then 5 minutes walking, but it%26#39;s a quiet place with a lot of character in the nice area Kristiine. And it%26#39;s value for money.

Thanks for the comments. It sounds like the answer to %26#39;Should we stay somewhere out of town?%26#39; is %26#39;Yes%26#39;

So the best way to enjoy Old Tallinn is to stay somewhere else. What a big shame!

Did this whole stag party, getting drunk, problem start in the last couple of years?

Some friends of ours went in 2004 and they described Talinn as a beautiful quiet medieval town. I guess it%26#39;s changed a bit since then.

I think you may be reading more into the replies than is written. Two places have been mentioned out of the Old Town.

Your question about noise in the Old Town has not been answered. You perhaps need to wait until you get a reply from a Tallinn regular or someone who has stopped in one of the Old Town hotels.

I have been to Tallinn about 10 times, sometimes on business and sometimes for pleasure. I have ALWAYS stayed in the Old Town. Virtually all of the clubs are on the outskirts of the old town, so shouldn%26#39;t cause you any problems. The Old Town itself is beautiful, picturesque and charming, and small enough to be completely accessible by foot.

Difficult to make a recommendation without knowing your budget. I%26#39;d look at the hotels listed elsewhere on the site, pick your star rating and read the reviews, looking specifically for comments about noise if that%26#39;s an important issue for you. But once again, although there are lots of bars and restaurants in the Old Town, the clubs tend to be outside.

I can recommend a hotel in old town that is small but nice. its called Old town hotel :) 2stars

From that website you will find another hotel also, Gran Hotel Tallinn, that is not in the middle of the old town, but is very close. And if noise is an issue for you, then you can always ask for a quiet room, then they will put you in a room that does not have windows facing the street for example.

And one 4 star hotel Imperial hotel... also beautiful hotel, situated in old town.

They have a fabulous cheese restaurant...if you like cheese :)

Hi

We%26#39;ve been to Tallinn more times than I can remember and we%26#39;ve stayed at four different hotels, none of which have had any problems with noise.

We love the Scandic Palace hotel, which is right on the edge of the Old Town, mainly because they treated us so well during our stays there, the breakfasts are great and our room had the biggest picture window overlooking the Old Town.

The Reval Central is about 5 minutes walk from the Old Town and that is a great budget choice. The superior rooms are massive and the breakfasts are good. We are going back there this December.

Our third choice is too far from the Old Town, but we love it for our summer stay, it%26#39;s the Pirita Top Spa and it%26#39;s full of Soviet chic and lovely staff. The breakfasts are rubbish but the view at night from our balcony over the bay of Finland makes us for any shortcomings.

The fourth hotel we stayed in, the Mihkli was okay but, not all together sure what the but is except we probably wont bother going there again, it just didn%26#39;t grab us.

In all our times to Tallinn noise and bad behaviour have never intruded on our holiday. We are middle aged, well I am he%26#39;s verging on the old (61)and it is our favourite city to visit.

Have a great time

Hi Brian

Just read your posting again and I see it%26#39;s July you are going to Tallinn. That puts the Pirita Top Spa back on the menu.

It%26#39;s a fab place, built for the Moscow Olympics and it has a character all of its own. You have to get a bus to town and it%26#39;s about a five minute walk to the bus stop, but they seem to run every few minutes.

It%26#39;s a just few minutes walk to a wonderful sandy beach and we love it.

If you go there book a suite or a mini suite, we always stay in the Jonathon Edwards, the double jacuzzi is great after a day%26#39;s tramping round Tallinn and the view at night over the bay is just lovely.

This is not called tram but trolleybus :) with the tram the poor guy will never reach Valge Villa.
