Site Seeing options

I will be in Tallinn for only a few days. What are the BEST things to visit and experience in Tallinn? Restaurants? Bars? Site attractions, etc.

Easy - head for the medieval Old Town, which is itself Tallinn%26#39;s top attraction and contains the vast majority of the city%26#39;s points of interest. If mooching around the cobbled streets seems aimless to you, go to the tourist information office and pick up a stack of free leaflets and go through them at leisure over a coffee or beer in one of the very many attractive cafés. That way you can find out what appeals to you, mark them on your map and go get %26#39;em.

Restaurants and bars enjoyed by visitors are easy to find in the Old Town, and many have been mentioned previously in this forum. Look back and you will find endless recommendations, but I advise you to discover them for yourself - easily done in the compact Old Town area.

By day 3 or so you may wish to venture out of the Old Town to the Kadriorg area, the zoo or the open-air museum at Rocca al Mare, according to your tastes.

A few days is enough to cover a great deal of Tallinn in a relaxed and spontaneous manner or alternatively to power through an exhaustive list of attractions at speed. Only you know where you will feel most comfortable between these two extremes.

Last time I and my daughter were in Tallinn we flew over to Saaremaa, the big island. The flight takes about a half hour. There is a fantastic castle/fortress in the main town of Kuresaare. There is also an inexpensive tour of the island. We ended up taking the bus back to Tallinn. The bus takes the ferry to the mainland. That was interesting also.
