Going to Tallinn in a few weeks cos I thought the beer was dirt cheap. How cheap is it and where should I go? Thanks...

this is a list of bars in the city,I don%26#39;t think any of them were that cheap but maybe a bit cheaper than Britain
The Beer House was great for food and their range of beer made on the premisis is great, though the constant German brass band music might drive you mad.the stunning waitresses in their rather skimpy outfits more than make up for it.( they guys looked quite cute too)
Hell Hunt was a good place to realx in and they have their own beer which was fine.
Nimeta Bar (Bar With No Name): was a great place to watch football or any other sport, email the owner Andy and he will let you know what is on when.very lively place at night.lots of cocktails and shots at decent prices ( our favourite place)
Nimega Baar (Bar With a Name): just a few yards from Nimeta bar, nice enough place but no atmosphere at all, very very quiet when we were in there.
St. Patrick’s: great place with great special offers on the local beer.didn%26#39;t spend an evening there but stopped by late afternoon twice for a couple of drinks.
please bear in mind i was travelling with another middle-aged bitter old bugger of a divorcee just like me and we had a very good time in the city,we were there in early september and the whole place seemed faily quiet,don%26#39;t know what it will be like in january ,probably very quiet.
i think we may have tried a few other bars but these are the ones i can remember.

Don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find really cheap beer anywhere but I%26#39;d certainly give Hell Hunt a try. It doesn%26#39;t look that special from the outside but very friendly service and good snacks/meals are served. They have a wide selection of beers including some tasty local brews. It%26#39;s popular with the locals which is always a good sign.

For dirt-cheap beer you should get to Tallinn early - no later than 1995, in fact. Estonia has developed enormously since independence and prices are in pace with growing affluence.
If the cost of beer is that important to you, you should head for areas outside the Old Town and away from the ports and hotels. As with most places, the grottier the area, the cheaper the booze.

You should have done a bit more research before jumping to that conclusion. It%26#39;s a very outdated myth in the UK that the beer is %26quot;dirt cheap%26quot; in the Baltics and you%26#39;ll likely be paying far more for nights out than you would in Leeds.
If you%26#39;d come in 2002 you%26#39;d have got non-international beers for 50p, 2005 it was generally around £1 for local beer. Those are Riga prices, generally Tallinn has been 10% more expensive while international beers heineken etc have always been up to double the price of local beers.
Since 2005 prices have doubled and in the last year the pound has collapsed against the Baltic currencies, which are all tied to the Euro, making it even more expensive to visit.
For example the menu in english for beerhouse http://www.beerhouse.ee/ doesn%26#39;t give drinks prices however desserts cost 160 Kroner. A tenner (!) While takeaway beer is nearly £4 per litre. Probably not the best idea if you%26#39;re looking for cheap options.
Karja Kelder will probably be the cheapest you%26#39;ll get and even then £2.50 is for not even a full pint is hardly dirt cheap. There will certainly be cheaper options outside the centre but generally they%26#39;ll be small crappy bars with the atmosphere of a morgue, full of old solitary alcos staring morosely into their drinks.

I go to Tallinn 3 or 4 times a year. Beer is not cheap at all. Anywhere! Except in Selver(like tesco), but not in the pubs. Just back from Prague though, an dit was 89cent euro (75p) a pint of czech draught. lovely.

What made you think the beer was cheap here? A beer in Tallinn costs around 3 euro, which is affordable but maybe not inexpensive enough to warrant a trip based on the price of it? You can get it cheap in the supermarket but besides that you%26#39;ll have to leave the city to get something cheaper, and then it will only be marginally so. The kind of bars that host stag nights, ironically enough, tend to have those deals that offer %26#39;3 for the price of 2%26#39; or a shot with every 5th beer etc. You%26#39;ll find those places along Viru street and around Raekoja Plats. A good rule of thumb, which applies everywhere actually, is if you see a really crap looking pub that nobody wants to go into, the beer will probably be a bit cheaper. Places to look for: the bus station, canteens near high rise apartments, kiosks near hospitals, pizza places near technical colleges (there%26#39;s one on Pärnu street) and there%26#39;s also a cafe or two at the open market off Kelder street, between Jukantali and Tartu highway.
|||
Plaah, there are lot of places also in centre where you can buy pint of beer with 26 kroons (about 1,5 €). These places are small pubs and atmosphare is not maybe %26quot;best%26quot;, but beer is cheap anyway...
