My family and I are cruising to Tallin on August 5th and would appreciate any suggestions on %26quot;must see%26quot; attractions in Tallin during our time there. We will be walking (local transit). If you were spending one day in Tallin, what would you do/see to make your time there most memorable?

Easy. Walk to the Old Town and take a leisurely stroll around. Don%26#39;t miss the scenic platforms on Toompea Hill overlooking the Old Town. Lunch at the medieval-themed Ye Olde Hansa and perhaps a little souvenir shopping (crafts, amber, local liqueurs) till it%26#39;s time to go back to the ship.
You won%26#39;t forget Tallinn.

And if you have the time and it%26#39;s a nice day take the tram to Kadriorg and look at the palace.

Don%26#39;t worry about the Hill, anything over 2 meters high is considered a hill in Estonia. There is a nice Tower attatched to the Old Town hall and the museum there is very nice.the main museum off the Square is also very good, quite small but nice.
There is also an old pharmacy shop with a little museum bit attached that is worth a few minutes visit,it is almost next door to the museum.
I didn%26#39;t spend a lot of time in Tallinn itself when I was there as I was doing a lot of walking in the national park, and when I did get a day to explore tallinn it poured of rain.

In the time you will have (usually 8am to 5pm on those hop-off cruises) I recommend you just stroll around Old Town exploring some smaller streets around Pikk and Lai, hit the viewing platforms, check out the Tallinn city museum (small and informative) and if you want to take in another, the Maritime museum. In old town you will find all the famous characters and all their friends from the guide books, Pikk Hermann, Paks Margarita, Alexander Nevsky Catherdral, St. Olav%26#39;s, Niguliste church, House of Parliment, the Old Pharmacy, Town Hall and Old Tomas, the wool market etc. If you really want to make something of it, also check out Kadriorg palace, the famous architectural gem commissioned by Peter the Great - LOVELY gardens.

The look-out points at Toompea hill are worth visiting for rooftop views of Tallinn.
Town hall square.
Most museums are pretty small here so it won%26#39;t take long to visit one if you want to.
If you have time, go even further than just Kadriorg... see the ruin of pirita monastery/klooster.

I visited Pirita and very much liked it.
nearby is the local cemetary which very unusually is set in woodlands,in all my travels it is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places to have a cemetary.I certainly would not mind that place as my final resting spot (not for a long time I hope)

I too am arriving by Cruise Ship and am really looking forward to seeing Tallinn.
I appreciate all the info above-many thanks for taking the time and trouble to do that it is great.
I wonder if you could let me know what is the best way to get into Tallinn from where the ship will berth, I much prefer to see Tallinn independently instead of being herded around on a shore excursion so any further advice would be much appreciated
Many thanks-Leuca

If you check and tell us which harbour your cruise ship docks at we can tell you for sure. You may well be within sight of the Old Town. Walking there and back is the best way, for sure - taxis not only have to take a circuitous route but also may well have a rigged meter.
Unclegus, if you think there are no hills in Estonia you obviously didn%26#39;t take the steep route up Toompea.
