Currency

Please ignore my stupidity but is evertyhing in EEK or can you also use Euro?

|||

EEK only. Also, you%26#39;re much better bringing pounds there and changing them over. I couldn%26#39;t believe how bad the rates offered for Baltic currencies were when I was last in UK.

Foreign currencies are accepted by the more touristy places but the rate is crap - always use local money. And, as the previous poster says, get your crowns locally.

The euro is most definitely a foreign currency in Estonia. I%26#39;ve seen it accepted routinely only on the ferries to Finland.

Just got back from Tallinn and had the 20Euro in my wallet, i used it in an off licence and bought chips with it in the Scotland yard pub. I would say you can use the euro in a lot of places in Tallinn.

As for currently, i agree that you get a better rate in Tallinn, but some sting you with commission, making the rate worse. If you do get currency in the UK use

https:/…currencyexpress

No commission and free delivery over £300. The rate at the moment on there is parable average to what i have seen in Tallinn. I have seen it range from 18 to 20 eek

Good point, Dusty. If you change your money in Tallinn, do it at a bank, NOT one of the handy exchange points conveniently located all around the Old Town - their rates can be extortionate. It sometimes takes a little longer but it%26#39;s worth it.

Or use your plastic in a cash machine - UK%26#39;s HSBC (for instance) charges only about 2% and you get a decent rate, far better than money-changers offer.

You can use euros, but as said the rate is a lot higher than if you used EEK. The offices at the port have an ok rate. We found good exchange rate at the office located inside the Viru center.
