Can anyone recommend 1 or 2 day trips from Tallin

We are visiting Tallin this month and are already intending to do a day trip to Helsinki. Can anyone recommend a one or even two day trip somewhere else in Estonia, we%26#39;ll probably hire a car so anywhere will be accessible (also does anyone know a reputable local car hire firm?). Thanks (or tänan) in advance for your help!

Yes, I can recommend a trip to Tartu or a daytrip to Pärnu.

Sir Auto-Rent is a local, cheap and reputable hire firm.

We have recently returned from 7 nights in Tallinn and in addition to a day trip to Helsinki we did day trips to Eastern Estonia (including Toolse Castle, Rakvere, and a couple of manor houses) and Laheema National Park.

We arranged both of these via Est Adventures and really enjoyed both of them. If you are looking to hire a car Laheema National Park will be easier.

Hi,

You can go by bus to some nice small cities:

1 Pärnu www.parnu.ee

2. Rakvere www.rakvere.ee (my favorite)

3. Haapsalu www. Haapsalu

4. Univercity- town Tartu www. tartu.ee

If you rent a car, you can go to Lahemaa. Beutiful national park with many casteles and great nature , sea . Its a large area.

Or you can go to some island. Saaremaa, Muhu or Hiiumaa..

If you have a few days to spend and want to get to see the essence of this country, it%26#39;s best to rent a car and hit the unbeaten paths.

When renting a car, both Avis and Europcar have offices right at the airport.

If the weather is good (i.e. not exactly raining) then I highly recommend a bog walk in one of the nature reserves. On the route from Rakvere to

Tartu is Endla bog http://www.endlakaitseala.ee/?id=824. We did the walk in May and absolutely loved it. Something different to the usual landscapes you see in Europe. The route takes about 4-5 hrs (depending on how many photos you will take); there are little viewing towers on the route where you can have a rest and nibble on the sandwiches - bring your own as there is no catering. At this time of the year you can also pick an occasional cranberry and lingonberry that grow everywhere along the walkway. In the middle of the nature reserve on the shore of Endla lake you%26#39;ll find a lovely picnic stop where you can make fire and have your meal. If you then decide to continue until the last viewing tower (which has stunning views over the whole bog, lake and forests), make sure to take the same route back. We made the mistake to take a different route back which was not very scenic, got our feet wet and took a good 1.5 hrs fast walking to cover without many signposts to show the way. But we made it out to tell the tale - with wide smiles on our faces.

Things to bring with: a camera, food, water, waterproof footwear would be a bonus.

Or if bog walk is not for you - catch a ferry ride to Estonia%26#39;s largest island - Saaremaa. Plenty of things to see and do during the day and lovely SPA hotels to stay the night at.

Hi,

I recommend You to hire a car from a local company. It can be more than 3 times cheaper. Here You find some links I have usd this http://www.abcautorent.ee/ Their special offers start from 23 eur a day :)

and here is a passanger ship schedule www.ts.ee/passenger_ship_schedule.php?k=3 It takes only 1,5 h with a fast ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki

Try www.tallinn.ee to explore possibilities in Estonia, on this web page you will find as well list of car rental companies. But believe me, be careful with small companies and be away from famous brands. The best is to companies which have offices whole in Baltics. Use list of companies with good background and sent them requests for offer and ask them about all, only then you will get best offer.

If you really want to do something different you should go to the only island near Tallinn that has a real fishermen village and where 100 people live year round it is Pranlgi. It is amazingly close 30min drive from Tallinn city centre to Leppneeme(Viimsi) and then 55min by a small boat (fits 50pax) and you are there.Prangli is quiet yet alive and not many tourist go there so don%26#39;t tell everybody please. More you can find from www.prangli.com
