Is it easy to buy Viking Lines ferry tickets once I get in Tallinn (first week of September). I will arrive morning in Tallinn and plan to ferry to Helsinki during the afternoon/night...so, do I just buy tickets at the Viking Lines terminal or do I have to book in advance while I am here in USA? I chose Viking Lines because it%26#39;s terminal in helsinki is close to the Eurohostel where I booked stay. I tried buying through Viking Lines website for ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki...but I never got a confirmation...Pleaaaaase advise!!!

The website should work, did you enter your credit card details? If you did, send them an e-mail (Viking Line is a reliable company). Otherwise try again. Advance booking will save you stress.
We bought a ticket for a ferry an hour before departure. Don%26#39;t leave it any shorter than this. There are lots of ferries to choose from. The Super Seacat and Linda Line are not that far from Eurohostel (you could easily walk if you are not carrying a lot of luggage).

Thanks photoman --- I do remember I did include my credit card details but I will try again at the Viking Lines website --- if not, I will try to go with the other ferries. You%26#39;re right - it%26#39;s one less thing to worry about if I buy my ticket now.

Hi
Before you rebook with your credit card, first check with your card provider if the original payment went through, then ring Viking Line to tell them the problem.

I did e-mail Viking Lines but they did not respond (twice) and I did not notice charges on my card. I wonder if that was the official Viking site? So, I am looking at other ferry websites but having hard time to book the short Tallinn to Helsinki route (directferries.uk says price unavailable for that route). Am I booking too early (for a September ferry?) or is this short ferry trip too low-priced to be booked on-line? Maybe it is just hard to book online from USA? But I had no problems booking the longer Stockholm to Tallinn ferry through Silja, but I wanted to use another ferry (ie Viking) for Tallinn to Helsinki which docks close to the Eurohostel...oh well, anybody with suggestions on which ferry website to use? I wonder how far the Silja ferry terminal port is from Eurohostel? Should I just book through Silja also? Thanks for the responses for this confused American who wants to use the ferry (European ferries are much much more popular and extensive!)

There%26#39;s no need to book on the larger ferries. They always have room in September. And if not, you can just go with a rival operator. There are plenty of them.

Hi
There are lots of Tallink ships which cross daily to Helsinki and their website has an English language booking site. Just google Tallinksilja and chose the international site option.
By the way after having visted Tallinn umpteen times and Helsinki once I think you would be better spending a little more time in Tallinn before you cross to Helsinki.

I would directly with one of the ferry companies, rather than use an agent (unless they can offer you a discount). The Super Seacat and Linda Lines terminal is not far, I would say a 15 minute walk from Eurohostel.
I would not give up on Viking Line. They haven%26#39;t debited your card, so no one has cheated you. They are the closest, so if they have a good deal I would try making the booking again. But then again there failure to respond to your e-mails will make you less patient with them if there is another problem. So you may get more peace of mind using another company.
The Tallink ships arrive at another terminal that is not within walking distance of Eurohostel. There is a tram into the city or you could catch a taxi.

We booked at the Eurohostel 30 minutes before our sailing on the Linda Line (earlier this month) and we got everything okay, although the hostel worker was a bit alarmed when we first said we wanted the ticket at that short notice. The Eurohostel offers a discount on the Linda Line. It was 27 Euros one way booked through them and the crossing was really quick only about 1 hour 20 minutes. I would highly recommend them. The walk is only about 15 minutes from the Eurohostel. Some of the ferries use the Western terminal and that is quite a bit further away and we were told it would take around 50 minutes from the hostel by tram and then bus. We did not fancy that. So you really do not need to book ahead for the ferry. We left our luggage at the Eurohostel and spent a morning in the museums before heading out to Tallinn.
