I%26#39;m coming to visit Tallin in September for a couple of days and we%26#39;re planning to get a taxi from the airport to our hotel (Hotel Bern).
We%26#39;ve heard some horror stories about getting ripped off by taxi drivers - so does anyone have any advice on how much we can expect to pay, and how we can prevent ourselves from being conned?
Regards

Hi
Tallinn has paid a lot of attention lately to the problem that taxis are cheating tourists and the situation has improved, dont worry.
From Airport to hotel Bern is 4-5 km, it should by 100 kr (10-12 USD or 7-9 eur)..
Starting fee is 35-45 EEK (not per person) and one km costs 8-11 EEK, pricelist is on the taxiwindow.
1 usd is 10.1 eek
1 eur is 15.677 eek
welcome

Hi
Make sure you get a taxi with a meter, outside the airport you cross the first small road where private hire cabs wait and go to the second pavement. Reliable taxis are Linna, Tallink and one other. When the name comes back to me I will post it.
We have met some charming taxi drivers, the last one was so sweet I could have put him in my case and brought him home.
Enjoy your holiday

Hi
The third reliable company is %26quot;Tulika%26quot;. There may be others but you should be safe if you use these three.

Thank you to everyone for all your help. I feel very confident and happy about getting a taxi now. You%26#39;ve all been marvellous - thank you again.

We just got a taxi the other way from the old town, so ahad the advantage that the taxi was called by the hotel. We had been told to expect 10 euros (150 EEK), but our bill only came to 135 EEK because there was no traffic. We were told it could be as much as 15 Euros if traffic were bad. When you watch the meter it does seem to go up very fast, but the distance is actually very short. So the price is just as cheap as mimi cabs in London. If you are really worried you could fix the rate with the driver in advance.

Well, Tulika is not the best...its just the most expensive alongside with Tallink taxi and Tallinna taksopark.
I always used Marabu and Reval taxi.
There is a very good site, where you can find all taxicompanies and the prices and phonenumbers.

its in english.
So before you decide, take a look.
