Tartu nightlife

Hi,

I am in my 20%26#39;s and am going to be travelling around Estonia in early June and wanted to visit Tartu. I have looked on inyourpocket.com and seen quite a few of the nightlife options. However with it being a university town does this mean it will be quiet if the school term has finished? and will there be students around the first week of June.

Also is it busy on any nights outside of Friday and Saturday? are there many options midweek?

Any sites I should try to take in?

And can anyone recommend any good bars and clubs to visit?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello!

Tartu is nice place to visit. :)

School year will be over beginning of the July, so June is great time to be here.

About nightlife... it%26#39;s hard to recommend, because i don%26#39;t know what music you prefer, but if you want to see beautiful girls/boys then you must visit Club Tallinn (www.clubtallinn.ee) or Club Illusion (http://illusion.ee/). Club Illusion is also very popular among the Tartu students.

If you want to experience total relaxation you must visit Pirogov Park. Younger generation likes to hang out there. This is only area in Tartu where you can drink alcohol in public(!).

Where to eat-

Crepp

La Dolce Vita (http://www.ladolcevita.ee/)

etc.

I wish you a nice trip!

pirogov and crepp definitely, but for night time, the best drinking and meeting local people, the option is zavood - it is an almost cult bar, has been very popular among students, locals and tourists from the time they opened it (more than 10 years ago).

When we went the gunpowder club/bar was the best bar that we went to. It is literally a former gunpowder storeroom set in a hillside. Also worth checking out is Beer Colours, if only for the weird beer cocktails that they serve. The nightlife there when we went was really decent and I%26#39;d definitely recommend it for a visit.

I will suggest ClubTallinn too.

Tartu is hopping during the week - in fact when the weather is good (like in June) it%26#39;s even busier mid-week because many people get out of town for the weekend. Clubs to hit if you are in your late 20%26#39;s are Maasikas and Atlantis, for a younger crowd try Club Tallinn, (although they close during the summer, I don%26#39;t know the exact date) Illusion and Rock Klub. Bars, as mentioned, include Zavood, Underground, Püssirõhu (touristy) Illegaard, Mailim and if you are slumming it at the end, Pool Kuus. Sights of interest: The ruined catherdral on Toome Hill, currently being renovated but you can walk to the top for a view, the nearby big yellow Tartu observetory, the old neighborhood of Karlova, the river walk along the emajõgi that brings you into Supilinn, Old Town - to include the Tartu 18th Century citizens museum, the Jaani church with it%26#39;s famous terracotta sculptures and cobbled Lutsu street where you will find the toy museum and the currently being renovated puppet theatre. Up the hill from here you will find the cathedral and an old lemonade stand known as Rotund which is now a cafe. There are many pleasant walks that take in historical sights and some of Tartu%26#39;s crumbling Art Nouveau architecture - the tourist office in the town hall can give you maps of these.

Sorry I just noticed when you posted the original question. I%26#39;m a bit late.
