US fast food

I%26#39;ve heard there are NO US fast food places in Tallinn (and from what I have been able to find on the %26#39;net, this seems to be correct). No McD%26#39;s, no Starbucks, no Subway or KFC...not even a 7 Eleven. Is this true? Honestly, I kind of hope it is because it%26#39;s so easy to fall back on the tastes of home in another country.

What you have read is rubbish. We have more than enough fast food here. Maybe not every single brand US name you may want but there%26#39;s McDonalds, Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays and then we have homegrown fast food like Hesburger, (although Finnish) and our version Starbucks is called %26#39;Roberts Coffee%26#39; and %26#39;Coffee In%26#39;. So actually maybe not loads of US places then now that I think about it, but why would there be? Fear not though as there are plenty of European editions. McD%26#39;s is on the corner of Viru tänav at the Old Town gates.

Hi,

yes, many of them we dont have, but hamburgers are here... Many McD-s, Hesburger.. You can find pizza-places also.

I miss Starbucks here - i love those coffe-drinks. WE have some Double-Coffe palces (good drinks, but terrible service).

But i am sure you can find lovely local places. And cakes here are so good and natural.

Oravad, Hellinn - Roberts Coffee and Hesburger are Finnish chains! Americans aren%26#39;t the only cultural imperialists.

Unfortunately, there is a glaring McD right by one of the main gates to the Old Town. This is a serious style malfunction that was committed in the early years of independence, when any foreign investment was welcomed eagerly.

But worry not - faux medieval eateries have a far higher profile in the Old Town than do any of the plastic imports. Ye Olde Hansa may be tacky, but at least it fits in with the milieu better than Rotten Ronnie%26#39;s.

I%26#39;m kind of bummed to learn you have a McD%26#39;s! I don%26#39;t eat there much in US so I hope not to in Estonia. I will definitely want to try the Estonian chains over the American chain restaurants.

|||

There are no Estonian chains, but there is fast food. There%26#39;s lots of burger stands but I can%26#39;t say I could vouch for their flavors. I did mention that Hesburger and Roberts coffee were Finnish, John. KirbyD, McDonalds does not taste the same as it does in America and it%26#39;s more expensive!

|||

So you did, Oravad. I stand corrected.

Don%26#39;t be too bummed, Kirbs - that%26#39;s just the downside of freedom. People free to make choices are going to make mistakes sometimes.

%26quot;KirbyD, McDonalds does not taste the same as it does in America...%26quot;

That might not be a bad thing! ;)

For a slightly different perspective you could try some of the pub food over here. Compared to UK and Irish prices they are very cheap, but the quality doesn%26#39;t suffer because of it.

A place or two that I would recommend is the Karja Kelder, it%26#39;s an underground bar near the Old Town square and if you happen to be an Irish-American, then Molly Malones bar in the same area does a great chilli, but I can t vouch for their full Irish Breakfast.

Oh yes and off course most of these bars have hamburgers and French fries.

Oh I agree, I forgot about Karja Kelder%26#39;s food, it%26#39;s cheap and good. Not exactly fast though, but what the hey.
