I%26#39;ll be in Tallinn for a week mid-July. I%26#39;d like to visit the Lahemaa National Park and the Endla Reserve. I won%26#39;t have a car. Are there day excursions that I can pre-book?

Hi,
its a very good plan to go to Lahemaa, but there are no excursions to book.. (as much as i know)
pls visit the website www.lahemaa.ee Maybe they can advise something if you contact them.
My advise is to rent a car for a 2 days. Its worth to visit.

Thank you. I%26#39;m contacting the tour agency.

Don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;re still watching this, cantorion. I%26#39;m not often on this forum.
Endla bog is a delight. We had a tremendous day there in May 07. Certainly worth hiring a car for id you can%26#39;t get an excursion.
If you%26#39;re interested, our trip report is here -

The wildlife was mostly birds (we saw moose and boar as well) - beaver, lynx etc are much harder to locate. There are a few photos around here ...

but our web host has messed up all of our galleries so the missing pics all need resizing - a mammoth and boring task - at least one decent pic of the bog from a watchtower, though.

Thank you pandachris. I%26#39;ve already found your entry whilst sufing around Tripadvisor. It%26#39;s primarily birds that i%26#39;m interested in, so thanks very much.

No problem. Feel free to contact me direct if you think I can offer any assistance. Don%26#39;t know what mid-July will be like in Estonia. Most of the song-birds will have stopped singing, of course but I would imagine that raptors will still be in evidence, possibly in good numbers. There was quite a concentration of birds in the areas closest to the Endla visitor centre so Icterine Warbler and Thrush-Nightingale might still be possible. There were a few interestig breeding species on the lake, so that might be worth a look and the scenery, especially on a sunny day, is quite splendid. I%26#39;ve a feeling that there are Black Stork on the reserve. We didn%26#39;t see any but I%26#39;d think they%26#39;re still around into the summer.

Thanks very much. It sounds delightful. By the way, if you are from Shrewsbury UK, I used to live there...

A splendid place in many ways. I%26#39;ve been here for 22 years now and have seldom regretted the move.

a popular way to travel - at least among the locals - is %26quot;Looduse omnibuss%26quot; (The omnibus of nature). See looduseomnibuss.ee. The site is in Estonian, but at least you can get the contacts. as you%26#39;ve noticed, day trips to wildlife are not easy to find. This bus is an affordable opprtunity to make small excursions to the nature. It leaves every Saturday and Sunday, the trips are announced Wednesday-Thursday. If you cannot find anything else, contact them. At least you will find a bunch of dedicated nature lovers.

Thank you so much. I%26#39;ve emailed them already.
