from Parnu to Kuressaare?

Hi - we%26#39;ll spend 5 days in Parnu this July, planning to travel to Kuressaare from there. Any advice on best (shortest) way to get from Parnu to Kuressaare?

I assume by public transport?

Then you can see bus schedules at http://www.bussireisid.ee/

but place of departure write Pärnu (with dots on %26quot;a%26quot;)

10:30 PÄRNU - KURESSAARE 13:45

12:30 PÄRNU - KURESSAARE 15:45

18:40 PÄRNU - KURESSAARE 21:45

20:30 PÄRNU - KURESSAARE 23:50

20:30 PÄRNU - KURESSAARE 23:50

Thanks , that was really helpful. Actually we were contemplating renting a car also - but bus seems reliable too.

But is there no port in Parnu? (Please excuse my ignorance, but one would expect there were ferrys or cruises from Parnu to the islands... )

from pärnu, ferrys or i guess these are more mail boats kind of ships only sail to 2 southernmost estonian islands - kihnu and ruhnu.

and btw, renting a car to go to saaremaa could be not so good idea as vehicle places on ferries may be sold out already - there%26#39;s just so much travelling going on between mainland and islands during summertime. but there definitely is room in bus.

maybe you could find a rent-a-car service on the island itself.

Hi!

You can see the connection and timetables of the ferries to Saaremaa at: https://www.laevakompanii.ee/index.php…

If you rent a car then i recommend to book your tickets on the site i just pasted you here.

The ferries depart from Virtsu harbour that is perhaps 40-50km north from Pärnu and arrive in Kuivastu harbour in Saaremaa.

If you take a bus from Pärnu to Kuressaare then you will go to the ferry by bus, of course you can come out from the bus while it%26#39;s on the ferry (it%26#39;s about 30 min sea trip).

I%26#39;ll try to paste the ferry company link again as it probably didn%26#39;t work in my last message:

There might not always be seats at a bus since it%26#39;s coming from Tartu (one of the biggest cities in Estonia), so it%26#39;s quite packed. I think renting a car and going by yourself (about 90 km) is OK. Besides, you can also stop in Muhu and drive around there aswell. And getting on a ferry won%26#39;t be a problem if you go in a middle of a week (even without previously bought ticket). Just avoid Fridays to go and Sundays to go back, then there are usually many people rushing on a ferry. And plan it on a morning rather than midday or evening. Ferries leave every hour from Virtsu and Kuivastu harbor.

PS! Avoid visiting Saaremaa weekend July 18th - 20th. Then there%26#39;s a huge beer festival and many many people go to Saaremaa.
